Meet Local Rescue Organizations and Their Dogs
Dogs have been bred for centuries to be tireless, high-energy assistants – herding, hunting, protecting. Many dogs remember their roots and need a "job" to be happy. Not all dog owners know how to channel that high energy and intelligence in a positive way – into canine sports, for instance. Rescue organizations are deluged with live "discards" from people who did not fully realize the implications of choosing pets who were bred for specific working or hunting characteristics. A dog who is doing what comes naturally may be relinquished as "too much to handle". That very same dog may be a canine sports enthusiast's dream! We've invited Portland area rescue organizations to visit during the tournament – some will have "non-couch potato" dogs that are available for adoption; all will be able to give you insight into breed charactistics and introduce you to their programs.

Why isn't Project POOCH in this particular list?
While POOCH has many dogs who are well-suited for a sporting life, dealing with breed-specific characteristics is not their focus. The dogs they bring to meet you at the tournament are just as likely to be dedicated snuggle-bugs as high-energy, driven athletes.
